Redesigning my professional journey: Applying the 5E Framework to elevate my career.

Writer: jinanshishahjinanshishah

As a UX Researcher, I spend my days analyzing journeys and solving pain points. Recently, I turned that lens inward, reflecting on how I present myself to recruiters. Using the 5E Framework, I’m crafting a recruiter journey that ensures every interaction with my profile, portfolio, and interviews is impactful.

1. Entice: Capturing Attention

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥: My profile stands out with a compelling headline, clear summary, and engaging portfolio, making recruiters think, “I need to meet this person”

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: My profile hasn’t fully showcased my recent projects or strengths, missing opportunities to leave a strong impression.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: I’m revamping my profile with focused messaging and highlights of my best work to align with market demands.

2. Entry: Making the First Step Seamless

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥: Recruiters easily find everything they need-updated skills, experience, and a clear portfolio link. Reaching out or scheduling time with me is smooth.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Gaps in my skills section and portfolio accessibility may have caused recruiters to move on.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: I’ve streamlined my profile with updated case studies, skills, and industry trends, ensuring seamless access to my work.

3. Engage: Providing Value

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥: My portfolio, interviews, and networking impress recruiters with storytelling, research processes, and impactful solutions.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: While I’ve delivered strong examples, I’ve missed chances to tailor responses to roles.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: I’m treating interactions like user interviews—researching companies, preparing examples, and refining my portfolio to highlight measurable results.

4. Exit: Leaving a Lasting Impression

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥: Recruiters leave interactions confident in my ability to solve challenges and add value to their team.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: My follow-ups sometimes lacked personalization or didn’t reinforce my enthusiasm.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: I’m committing to tailored thank-you notes, sharing insights post-interview, and ensuring I leave recruiters with a clear message: “I’m the right fit for your team.”

5. Extend: Building Long-Term Relationships

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥: Even if not hired immediately, recruiters remember me for future roles and value me in their network.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: My networking has been sporadic, and I’ve missed chances to stay connected.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: I’m making networking a consistent habit, engaging with posts, sharing insights, and reconnecting with contacts to build lasting relationships.

By redesigning my journey with the 5E Framework, I’m ensuring every recruiter interaction is professional, impactful, and memorable.
